William “Bill” Michael Topka, 73, of Oma, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Bill was born on June 30, 1953, in New Jersey to William and Olga (Alesso) Topka. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Nancy Sager, on July 7, 1973. Bill enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Throughout his military career, Bill and his family lived in Berlin, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Kansas before settling in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where Bill served as an ROTC instructor. Following his retirement from the military, Bill and Nancy moved to Oma, where they made their home.

Bill enjoyed spending time outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, or working in the yard. He took great pride in working with his hands, whether he was doing carpentry projects around the house or tending to their property. He also enjoyed time riding his Harley. Most of all, Bill cherished his family and the life he and Nancy built together.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; daughter, Melanie (Shanon) Liddicoat-Schomel; son, William (Kristen) Topka; three grandchildren, Isaac, Avery, and Liam; and his three sisters, Michelle Topka, Laurie Foy, and Diana Leotta. He was preceded in death by his parents.

No formal services will be held.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wiseman, Sue, and the nursing staff at the Ashland Cancer Center and Ashland Dialysis for their compassionate, above-and-beyond care and support, and to their helpful friend from Bessemer for taking care of Nancy.
