William R. "Bill" Bjork, 73, of
Hurley, and formerly of Ironwood, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, in
Hurley, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle
with cancer. He was born Nov. 21, 1938, in Ironwood, son of
Rose (Brunelli) and the late William Bjork, and graduated from Luther L. Wright
High School in 1956. He then entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 5, 1956, serving
stateside as a cook in California, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 2,
1959. Following his discharge, Bill worked at
American Motors in Kenosha and as a certiified welder at White Welding Co., also
in Kenosha. Returning to Ironwood, he worked at Lahti's, drove a logging truck
for Jim Bock Logging, worked for Cohodas-Paoli Co.and Nicholas Distributing, and
retired as maintenance man at Wells Fargo Bank in 2000. Bill was a member of Ironwood American Legion
Post 5. He enjoyed canning, cooking and helping others. On Aug. 20, 1966, he married the love of his
life, Dolores Barrett Werner, in Crandon. She survives. Also surviving are his mother, Rose Bjork, of
Ironwood; stepson, Terry (Kim) Werner, Appleton; two step-grandchildren, Jacob
and Joshua Werner; brother, Dwight (Diane), Jacksonville, Fla.; and numerous
nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Bill was preceded in death
by a brother, Robert. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb.
23, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick
Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Michael Hayden
officiating. Rite of Committal will take place at the
funeral home, where full military honors will be accorded by the Ironwood
American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Luncheon will follow at Tacconelli's in
downtown Ironwood. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery,
Hurley, in the spring. Pallbearers will be Dr. Bruce Gordon, Bernard
DeRizzo, Jim Bock, Roger Gentile, Dave Zarimba and Steve Lahti. Condolences can be given online at
