Wayne Leo Binz, 87, of
County Rd. C, Town of Oma, Hurley, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Golden Living
Center in Ft. Atkinson, WI. He was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Rockford, Ill.,
son of the late John and Kathryn (Donahue) Binz, spent his childhood in
Hampshire, Ill, and graduated from Hampshire. High School in 1943. He was married to Ellen Ann Kerber on May 11,
1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elgin, Ill, by Bishop Leo Binz. They
settled in Harvard, Ill. in 1953 where Wayne worked his farm and Wayne L.
Binz Well Drilling. In 1979 he moved his family to Hurley and enjoyed retirement
in the north woods: gardening, feeding birds, story telling, hunting, enjoying
family and nature, square dancing with his wife, good food and his wife's pies.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and the Knights of
Columbus. Wayne is survived by his children, Judy
Landis, Lighthouse Pt., Fla., Mary (Rollie) Haas, Prior Lake, Minn., Steve
(Lynn) Binz, Hurley, David Binz, Harvard, Kathy (Keith) Kleinhans,
Campbellsport, and Janet (Pat) Yates, Sharon; 20 grandchildren, Brian (Roberta)
Binz, Jeremy Binz, Alison (Vincent) Armeli, Ty Landis, Brook (Jessica) Haas,
Damian (Kristin) Haas, Hanne (Justin) Hanratty, Stephanie Binz, Steven (Kim)
Binz, Wayne (Andrea) Binz, Chelsea Binz, David (Kristen) Binz, Nathan (Maggie)
Binz, Trista (Paul) Bialorucki, Caleb Binz, Dustin Binz, Michaela Binz, John
Kleinhans, Emily (Glen Colson) Yates and Patrick Yates; 18 great-grandchildren;
and a sister-in-law, Vera Binz, of Hampshire.. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death
by his wife Ellen, of 62 years; sons, Patrick Edward, John Wayne and Daniel
Leo; grandson, John Wayne II; and brother, Melvin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Friday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM,
celebrant. Luncheon will follow in the parish
hall. Rite of Committal and interment will take
place in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Pallbearers will be Wayne's grandsons, to
include Steve, Wayne, David, Nathan, Caleb, Dustin and Brian Binz, Ty Landis,
Brook and Damian Haas, Patrick Yates and John Kleinhans. In lieu of flowers, the family request that
you plant a tree in Wayne's memory or send memorial contributions to the
