Virginia Jean (Ginney) Johnson. 79, passed away on June 13, 2023.

She was born on February 12, 1944, to Eino and Mary (Benetti) Turunen, grew up in Ironwood, and graduated from Saint Ambrose Catholic Highschool in 1962. She joined The Holy Family Convent in southern Wisconsin post high school. Subsequently, she studied at the University of Michigan and worked for Ironwood pharmacy for a period of time before marrying Arch Johnson in 1969.

She loved to spend time with her family and have them visit, even though they lived a distance away. She enjoyed making Italian meals for her family and even taught her step-grandson how to make raviolis from scratch.

She is survived by her former husband Arch Johnson and their three children. Her children are Jennifer Johnson of Studio City, CA, Jeff (Melissa) Johnson of West Olive, MI, and Julie (Jeff) Riser of Bloomington, MN. Viginia is survived by her grandchildren Eva Johnson, Jonathan Riser, Grace VanBeveren, and Jacob VanBeveren. Other survivors include her sister Elisabeth Hughes and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Virginia was proceeded in death by her parents Eino Turunen and Mary (Benetti) Turunen and her sister Katherine Duss.

A funeral will be held at Our Lady of Peace in Ironwood on June 28th with visitation at 10:00 am and Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
