Veronica A. "Ronnie" Donovan, 83, of Mercer, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at Golden Living Center-Riverview Nursing Home in Tomahawk. The former Veronica Turicik was born May 13, 1924, in Phillips, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Fojtik) Turicik, atttended Phillips schools, and graduated from Phillips High School. She then was employed in a defense plant in Milwaukee during World War II. She met and married Francis J. Donovan in Milwaukee on Feb. 28, 1952, moving to Mercer in 1963. Francis preceded her in death on May 7, 1998. Veronica worked in cranberry bogs in Manitowish Waters, and at Simpson Electric Co. and the Candle Maker in Mercer. She and her late husband were excellent dancers, and music and religion were the passions of her life. She was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer. Surviving are three sons, Thomas (Ellen) Buckingham, California, John (Inger) Donovan, Mercer, and Patrick (Debra) Donovan, Manitowish Waters; two daughters, Kathleen (Gary Hanson) Donovan, Duluth, Minn., and Maureen (Richard) Sutherland, Tomahawk; three grandchildren, Sophia and Alaina Donovan, both of Mercer, and Sarah Sutherland, Milwaukee; one great-grandson, Evan Plattner, Mercer; nine brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will be held at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in the Mercer Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until Mass time on Saturday. Pallbearers will be John and Patrick Donovan, Gary Hanson, and Richard Sutherland.
