Tyyne M. Maki, 95, of Ironwood,
Mich., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, in Hurley. She was born Sept. 3, 1915 in Kurikassa,
Finland, daughter of the late John and Alma (Polvi) Maki. She immigrated to
Ironwood in 1916, where she attended Central Grade School and graduated from
Luther L. Wright High School in 1933. She received an associate-in-arts degree
from Ironwood Junior College in 1935 and a bachelor of arts degree from Northern
State Teachers College in Marquette, Mich. in 1937. Tyyne then taught fourth
grade at Roosevelt School in Ironwood Township for 39 years, retiring in
1976. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church
in Ironwood and the Michigan Education Association. She enjoyed gardening and
sewing. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Beth
(Gilman) Hill, and Bruce (Roseanne) Siskonen, both of Ironwood, Lyle (Kathie)
Boucher, Mukwonago, Carol (Jon) Cousins, Chilton, Janet Gebhardt, Elk Grove,
Ill., and John Maki, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and grand nieces and nephews, Lea
(Mike) Miskovich, Ironwood, Eric Siskonen, Alexandria, Va., Todd Siskonen and
Craig (Heather) Siskonen, both of Grand Rapids, Mich., Caroline (Eric)
Boucher-Hutton, Washington, D.C., William Boucher, Milwaukee, and Dr. Jenney
Gebhardt, Chicago. Besides her parents, Tyyne was preceded in
death by a brother, Eino Maki; sisters, Gertrude Boucher, Mamie Siskonen, and
Ellen Maki; brothers-in-law, Milton Boucher and Elmer Siskonen; sister-in-law,
Edna Maki; and longtime friend, Dr. Ivar Johnson. Out of respect for Tyyne's wishes, cremation
has taken place. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Sept.
23, at 11 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in
Ironwood, with the Rev. Francis Strong officiating. Private interment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10
