Tiffany Marie Smith, 30, of N-8750 East End Rd., Erwin Township, Ironwood, died Saturday morning, April 7, 2007, in Hurley, surrounded by her loving family and friends, following a courageous, 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. She was born October 21, 1976, in Wakefield, the daughter of Jerry Smith and Judy (Lane) Anderson, attended Wakefield schools, the Newport Grade School in Ironwood, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1994. While at L.L. Wright, she was a four year member of the ROTC Program. Tiffany joined the Michigan Army National Guard in Kingsford in 1995, serving in the Guard untill illness forced her discharge in Jan. 2007. Following 9/11, she served 1 1/2 years in the Military Police at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She was also employed as a certified nurse's aid at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, and as a cook at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield. Tiffany was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood. She especially loved spending time with family and friends. Surviving are her son, Joshua Allan Smith, Ironwood; her father, Jerry Smith, Ramsay; her mother and step-father, Judy and Allan Anderson, Erwin Township; sister, Melissa Smith, Iron Mountain; step-sister, Jenny Hantula, Ironwood; paternal grandmother, Mildred Johnson, Linden, Mich.; maternal grandmother, Ann Lane, Iron River, Mich.; paternal step-grandmother, Martha Anderson, Ironwood; her very special friend, Chris Paquin, Ironwood; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Sandy Smith, earlier this year. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, at 11 a.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Jean B. Rencontre, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Cremation will follow. A luncheon reception will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Tiffany's fellow National Guardsman, to include David Carbon, Russell Johnson, Dustin Ivey, Stewart LaRock, Jerry Bal, and Douglas McDaniel.
