Thomasina M. Gulan, 94, a former
longtime Iron Belt resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in
Hurley. The former Thomasina Levra was born June 21,
1917, in Iron Belt, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Perrero) Levra, and
graduated from Iron Belt High School in 1935. She then took care of her family
for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Hurley and the former St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Iron Belt and
Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Pence. She also belonged to the St. Mary
Magdalene and Holy Redeemer Altar Society. Thomasina enjoyed knitting
and crocheting, and was an excellent cook. On Oct. 14, 1961, she was married to Felix
Gulan at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Iron Belt by the late Rev. James Nesbitt.
Felix preceded her in death on April 24, 1995. Surviving are a daughter, Marie Gulan, of
Chicago; a brother, George (MaryAnn) Levra, Iron Belt; two sisters, Margaret
Gulan, Ironwood, and Louise Levra, Chicago; and numerous nieces, nephews, and
brothers-and-sisters-in-law. Besides her parents and husband, Thomasina was
preceded in death by brothers, John, Joseph, and Anton Levra; and sisters,
Catherine Snarski, Mary Levra, and Agnes Gulan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Saturday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the
Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the
church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in Hillside Cemetery,
Iron Belt. Relatives and friends may call at the church
from 10 to 11 a.m on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to
