Thomas Michael Voyce, 74, of
North Star Rd., Ironwood Township, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 22,
2013. He was born June 23, 1938, in Ironwood, son of
the late George and Saima (Lehtimaki) Voyce, and graduated from Luther L. Wright
High School in 1956 and Gogebic Community College in 1958. He received a
bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education and education specialist in
administration all from Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Tom served our country from 1959 to 1962 in
Army/Air Force security. He was stationed in Japan for most of his
service. He was married to Frances H. Talo in
1962. Tom taught elementary and junior high school
in California, Wisconsin and Michigan. He taught math classes for Northern
Michigan University and Gogebic Community College. He served on the State of Michigan Math Council and was instrumental in
setting up the state of Michigan math competitions and state quiz
bowl. Tom was an active member of Siloa Lutheran
Church and St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was president of the church
council and served on the building committee. At Siloa, he assisted with adding
the wheel chair ramp and addition. At St. John's, he assisted in installing a
septic system and running water. Tom also participated in leading bible study,
and was very active in Ultraya. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time
with his seven grandchildren, remodeling the family farm, gardening, building
puzzles and playing cards. Tom is survived by his loving wife of more
than 50 years, Frances (Talo); son, Larry (Mara) Voyce, Ramsey, Minn.;
daughters, Theresa (Jeff) Schlesinger, Princeton, Ill., and Cathy (Gene) Husted,
Coon Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren, Kelsey, A.J., Sam, Logan, Katie, Kim and
Alex; sister, Karen (James) Warden, Waukesha, Wis.; brother, Robert (Barbara)
Voyce, Lone Rock, Wis.; brother-in-law, Frank Talo, Tavares, Fla.;
sister-in-law, Marian (Jay) Kaufman, Peach Tree City, Ga.; and numerous nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March
2, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church,
E0571 Airport Rd., Ironwood Township, with Pastor Kurt Kovanen and Pastor Mary
Beth Kovanen presiding. The family is requesting that in lieu of
flowers donations be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Fortune Lake Lutheran
Camp. Arrangements have been entrusted to
