Thomas A. Peterson, 67, of
Hurley, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, in his home, surrounded by his family,
following a two-year battle with prostate cancer. He was born Sept. 3, 1944, in Ironwood, son of
the late George and Isabelle (Nordell) Peterson, attended grade school in Upson,
and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1962. He then attended
Kenosha Technical College in Kenosha, receiving a degree in hydraulic
maintenance. He was married to the former Kathleen Kangas
for four years and Judy Maxam for 36 years. Tom worked in heavy equipment for various
construction companies including Angelo Luppino Construction, retiring from the
Town of Anderson in 2006. He also owned and operated T.J's Bar in Hurley for the
past 11 years. An avid bowler, Tom bowled in Hurley leagues
at the Legion Lanes for many years. Together with his ex-wife Judy, he ran the
first sanctioned youth bowling league in Ironwood and Hurley. He also enjoyed
hunting and fishing. Surviving are two sons, Kevin (Robyn), Neenah,
and Kelly T., Upson; a daughter, Melissa (Brian) Zurawski, Stevens Point; four
grandchildren, Dominic, Lexie and Nathan Peterson, and Amanda Zurawski; a
brother, Tim (Karen), Las Vegas; sister-in-law, Carol Peterson, Upson; numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special friend, Annie McMahon,
Hurley. Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death
by a brother, Larry, and sister, Toni Rice. Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has
