Obituary

Thomas J. "T.O." Olszewski, 64, of 15 Nimikon Ave., Gile, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in his home.      He was born June 21, 1946, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Theodore and Ann (Rigotti) Olszewski, attended Coolidge School in Gile and St. Mary's Grade School in Hurley, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1964. He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for one year.      T.O. worked in construction and on the pipeline nationwide for many years, and sold real estate in Arizona for several years. He was a job coach and assistant football coach in the Hurley School District, and served as Director of Emergency Government in Iron County for several terms. He then became head jailer in the Iron Co. Sheriff's Department, retiring as a dispatcher in that department on Sept. 1, 2005.      T.O.was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding his Harley, and especially enjoyed taking care of his dog, "Max."      Surviving are his brothers, Ted (Kathleen), Plover, and Jim, Stevens Point; two nephews, T.J. (Mary) Olszewski, Almond, and James Olszewski Jr., Stevens Point; two nieces, Kristi Olszewski, Mosinee, and Amy Olszewski, Stevens Point; two great-nephews, Joseph Olszewski, Almond, and Austin James Olszewski, Mosinee; one great-niece, Michaella Olszewski, Almond; and an aunt, Katherine "Sis" Gulan, Hurley.      Out of respect for the family's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek, O.F.M., celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow at the Iron Nugget in downtown Hurley.      Spring inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.      Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday.      To view T.O.'s obituary online, sign the guestbook or express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
