Taimi M. Chiapusio, 89, of Pence, died Thursday evening, March 6, 2008, at St. Francis in the Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior, where she had resided for the past five years. The former Taimi Korpi was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Bessemer, Mich., daughter of the late Hjalmer and Wilma (Harma) Korpi. She attended school in Iron Belt, graduating from Iron Belt High School in 1936. She then was employed in retail sales in Ironwood. Taimi was a member of the former St. Anthony and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Pence and its' Altar Society. She served as treasurer of the Montreal PTA in her earlier years, and enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, and keeping up on current affairs. On Jan. 19, 1942, she married John D. Chiapusio in Montreal. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1996. Surviving are a son, Dr. Dennis Chiapusio, D.D.S. (Kimberly Wiese), St. Cloud, Minn.; a grandson, Major Dominic Chiapusio, USAF (Alicia Smith), Mountain Home, Idaho; her Godchild, Nicole (Edward) Hocking, Bessemer, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Taimi was preceded in death by a brother, William Pippo; and two sisters, Bertha Wheeler and Martha Toth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 12, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Friends may call at the Engstrom Funeral Home, 210 Maple St., in Hurley, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, where the parish rosary will be recited at 7:30.
