Obituary

Suzanne Elizabeth (Skoviera) Kero, 85, of Saxon, WI, passed away on August 3, 2026, in Hurley, WI.

Suzanne (Sue) was born on December 3, 1940, to Viola (Lantta) and John Skoviera, and grew up in Iron Belt, WI. She graduated from Hurley High School, class of 1959.

Sue devoted her life to her family as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She shared 67 years of marriage dedicated to her beloved husband, Arnold (Arny) Kero, enjoying a life filled with family events and friends.

Sue and Arny met at a dance at the Iron County Fair in 1958 and they were married on August 1, 1959. They regularly celebrated their anniversary at the Saxon fair among friends and family.

Sue and Arny moved to Calumet, MI in 1966 and together raised six children. She encouraged her children (and grandchildren) to take advantage of opportunities that she hadn’t had but always offered advice and concerns when they did. Along with cheering on her children at school and sporting events, Sue served her community in various roles at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Laurium, MI and at Calumet Public Schools.

Sue loved to go for rides as a form of relaxation. She especially loved to go RV camping. She and Arny enjoyed traveling and made multiple trips across the country, often to Arizona.

Sue was known for her feisty personality. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and stand up for those she loved and the things she believed in. She never met a stranger, asking personal questions of clerks and neurosurgeons alike.

She is survived by her husband, Arny, children: Sheryl (Paul) Swodzinski of Kalamazoo, MI, Mark Kero of Gleason, WI, Beth (James) Kalleward of Portage, MI, Pamela (Dale) Rasmussen of Green Bay, WI, Dawn (Joseph Hey) Kero of Marquette, MI, and Dale (Joan) Kero of Hancock, MI, 19 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Skoviera of Iron Belt, WI and her brother, George (Charlotte) Skoviera of Hudson, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Viola and John Skoviera, her brother, James Skoviera, and her grandson, Marcus Mishica.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church at E5104 E Margaret St, in Ironwood on Thursday, August 6, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at the church. A luncheon will be provided following the service. After lunch, burial will be at 1:30 p.m., at the Lake View Cemetery, US-2 in Saxon, WI.
