Obituary

Susan Lynn "Susy" Lammer, 63, of Hurley, went to her heavenly home after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday morning, Nov. 13, 2017, at Ashland Health & Rehabilitation Center in Ashland.      She was born in Chicago, Ill. on April 26 1954, to the late Martin A. and Henrietta M. (Hepp) Lammer. They moved to the Hurley area in the 1960s and settled in Gile. After her parents deaths, Susy moved into the Maple Leaf Group Home and then eventually got her own apartment in downtown Hurley with the support help from Highline Corp. She attended South Side Grade School and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School with the Class of 1974.      Susy was employed at the Highline Corp. for 35 years, from 1982 until 2017, retiring for health reasons. During her time there, she worked in sewing, assembly and office work, winning an award for her sewing. She also worked for a time with the wayside crew. Her interests included Special Olympics (receiving many awards for many sports), AWANA, and decorating her apartment for every holiday.      Susy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and also attended the Range Community Bible Church. She was a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties Ladies Auxiliary.      Survivors include her adopted family of the staff at Highline Corp. and a dear friend, Bertha Johnson, of Superior.      Cremation has taken place with Rite of Committal and spring burial planned in the family plot in the Hurley Cemetery.      A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, Mich., with Father Frank Kordek OFM officiating.      A light luncheon will follow at Manny's in Ironwood.      In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Highline Gazebo Fund or Regional Hospice would be greatly appreciated.      Arrangements have been entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood. Condolences may be expressed online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Matthew 19:14- The Kingdom of Heaven belongs to Such as These.
