Stella F. Lamont, 97, of Ironwood, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, in Hurley. The former Stella Mackewitz was born June 1, 1910, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Anton and Bernice (Sobolewski) Mackewitz. She attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School with the Class of 1929. She was married to Albert Lamont on Jan. 21, 1937, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Rev. Charles Szygula.. Albert preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1972. Stella was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironwood and a current member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed visiting her children, bowling in her younger years, crocheting, playing bingo, and going to the casino. Surviving are her son, Robert J., Turtle Lake, Wis.; three daughters, Jackie (Ron) Wickman, Green Bay, Wis., Carol J. Moncher, Hurley, and Marge Pidde, Seattle, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas (Anne) Mack, Mishawaka, Ind., and Leo Mack, Seattle; two sisters, Jean Mack and Marion Daggett, both of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Stella was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe, Dick, Floyd "Cork" and Anton; and two sisters, Helen Cross and Natalie Kelly. At Stella's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, at noon, at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may visit with Stella's family from 11 a.m. until noon at the funeral home on Wednesday.
