Stanley E. Prebish, 65, of 909 N. Lawrence St., Ironwood, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 14, 1943, in Chicago, son of the late Stanley and Marie (Pahl) Prebish, attended Ironwood schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1960. He then attended Wausau Technical School in Wausau, Wis. for two years and became a tool and die maker. Stan worked at American Motors in Kenosha, Wis. as a tool and die maker for nine years, then returned to Ironwood, where he owned and operated Stan's Bar in downtown Ironwood from 1976-1999. He retired as a bus driver for Lake of the Torches Casino in May of 2007. Stan was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. He served in the Michigan National Guard for several years, and served one term on the Ironwood City Commission in the mid 1990's. He also served as a sponsor to many in the local Alcoholics Anonymous Chapter for many years. He was a former member of the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association and Ironwood Knights of Columbus Council 1396. His passion was deer hunting, and he also enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling in range area leagues in his earlier years. On Aug. 14, 1965, he married the former Jo Ann Morrissey of Kenosha at St. James Catholic Church in Kenosha. Jo Ann survives. Also surviving are a son, Jeffrey (Audra Schrader), Middleton, Wis.; a daughter, Jill (Kevin) Bjork, Hermantown, Minn.; two special grandchildren, Janelle and Bradley Bjork, Hermantown; a sister, Patricia Cvengros, Paducah, Ky.; two aunts, Ann Prebish, Ironwood, and Marjorie Lechman, Chicago; an uncle, Frank (Emily) Prebish, Milwaukee; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; several brothers-and-sisters-in-law; and his special buddy, his Shih Tzu, "Snickers". In accordance with Stan's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held in the spring.
