Stanley S. Marczak, 90, of Ironwood, died peacefully Saturday,
Dec. 28, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Bessemer, son of
the late John and Catherine (Zielinski) Marczak, and graduated from A.D.
Johnston High School. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 15, 1943, serving in the
European-North African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations during World War II,
and was honorably discharged as a corporal on Jan. 3, 1946. Following his discharge, Stanley returned to
Ironwood and worked in the Peterson Mine until it closed and was employed as a
custodian in the Ironwood Area School District until his retirement. He was a
current member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and former
member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and was also a member of Ironwood
American Legion Post 5. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, hunting and spending
time with his family. On May 20, 1950, he was married to the former
Mary Ann Perkovich at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood. She
survives. Also surviving are three children, Stan
(Darlene), Grantsburg, Wis., Rose (John) Onuska, Beaver, Pa., and Tom (Karen),
Sobieski, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Stanley (Katie) Marczak, John (Kelly)
Marczak, Rebekah (Steve) Fischer, Heather (Jack) Peffer, Sarah (Jason) Chimile,
John (Elizabeth) Onuska, Shaun (Kristie) Marczak and Alyse Marczak; and numerous
great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Stanley was preceded in
death by brothers, Walter, Frank, John and Joseph; and a sister, Helena, in
infancy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Thursday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family
Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev.
Robb Jurkovich, celebrant. Full military honors will be accorded by the
Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Luncheon will follow at Manny's
in Ironwood. Rite of Committal and interment will be in
Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring. Pallbearers will be John Onuska, Stanley M.
Marczak, John Marczak, Shaun Marczak, Joe Marczak and Mike Marczak. Arrangements have been entrusted to

thank you to Regional Hospice Services and their hospice team, especially

given to him during his illness.
