Sophia "Jean" Cisewski, 94, of 161 E. Harding Ave., Ironwood, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, in Hurley. The former Sophia Bolos was born May 15, 1914, in Superior, Wis., daughter of the late John and Agnes (Sixoie) Bolos, attended grade school in Gordon, Wis., and graduated from high school in LaGrange, Ill. in 1932. She then attended beauty school in Minneapolis and operated a beauty salon there and in Ironwood for six years. She also worked at Eva Wurl's in downtown Ironwood for several years. Jean was an avid bridge player and bowler, and loved travelling in the United States and Europe. She enjoyed golf, and was a former member of Mellen Country Club. She served as past president of the St. Ambrose High School PTA and was a member Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. On Jan. 29, 1938, she married Walter G. "Walt" Cisewski Jr. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1998. Surviving are three sons, Rev. Jack, New Orleans, LA, Wally, Wayzata, Minn., and Jim "Choo" (Debbie), Minnetonka, Minn.; two daughters, Kay Lustgarten and Judy Cisewski, both of Ironwood; six grandchildren, Lisa (Herb) Dahlberg, Kenosha, Wis., Wally Cisewski IV and Jodi Cisewski, both of Wayzata, Jessi Cisewski, Chapel Hill, N.C., and Nikki and Laura Jean Cisewski, both of Minnetonka; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Elizabeth and Lauren Grace Dahlberg, Kenosha; and a sister-in-law, Regina Peterson, Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Cisewski, in 1941; three brothers, Frank, George and Charles Bolos; and a sister, Theresa Bolos. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 9, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Jack Cisewski, celebrant. Rite of Committal will be in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Cremation will take place. Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, where liturgical wake services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Wally Cisewski IV, Bill and George Cisewski, and Michael Brown.
