Obituary

Sid Hovey, 85, of 1206 N. Hemlock St., Ironwood, died Friday, April 30, 2010, in Ironwood.      He was born March 11, 1925, in Bemidji, Minn., son of the late Roy and Gena (Thorwaldson) Hovey, and came to Ironwood as an infant, where he attended public school and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1943. He then served stateside in the U.S. Navy during World War II.      Following his honorable discharge, Sid worked for the Bureau of Public Roads in Alaska, then returned to Ironwood, where he was employed as a survey technician for the U.S. Forest Service for 25 years, retiring in 1981.      Sid was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, Ironwood Masonic Lodge 389, and Northland Chapter 66, Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid fisherman.      On Dec. 24, 1949, he was married to the former Evelyn M. Holst in Bessemer.      Surviving are his wife, Evelyn, of 60 years; two sons, Kurt, of Bergland, and Randy (Kerri), Wakefield; a grandson, Ryan (Jennifer), Sherman Oaks, Calif; two great-grandsons, Andrew and Ethan; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Doris Hild, Edam Claw, Wash., Shirley Martini, Corrine Holst, Bill and Jean Holst, Marilyn and Florian Partyka, and Nancy and Bob Sertic, all of Ironwood; a cousin, Bernice Abrahamzon, Frederic, Wis.; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Bernard "Bobo" Kolesar, of Ironwood.      Out of respect for Sid's wishes, cremation has taken place.      Private family memorial services will be held.      To view Sid's obituary and send online condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
