Obituary

Shirley A. Cannon, 75, of 814 N. Lawrence St., Ironwood, died peacefully Thursday, June 7, 2012, in her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy illness.      The former Shirley Kleimola was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Ironwood Township, daughter of the late Walter and Ida (Manninen) Kleimola, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1955. She was employed in clerical work in Detroit for a short time prior to her marriage to Bob Cannon on Nov. 1, 1955, in Iuka, Miss.      Shirley was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and the Auxiliary to Ironwood American Legion Post 5. She loved music and ballroom dancing, enjoyed making homemade pasties and bread, playing cards, especially smear, and doing jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and playing Scrabble with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.      Surviving are her husband, Bob, of 56 years; three sons, Kevin (Paula), Germantown, Wis., Keith (Betty), Ironwood, and Kris "Dino" (Diane), Hurley, Wis.; three daughters, Kathleen Udd (Geno), Junction City, Wis., Karin (Mike) Rimkus, Ironwood, and Karlyn Cannon (Joe), Hurley; 13 grandchildren, Aaron Cannon, Germantown,  Jennifer (Eric) Larsen, Tacoma, Wash., Jessica Udd, Junction City, Samantha (Ron) Green, Wausau, Wis., Veronica Cannon, Ironwood, Emily Cannon, Wausau, Nina Kitley and Tera Cannon, both of Ironwood, Amanda Rimkus (Nathan), Marquette, and Nicole Rimkus, Kimberly Tibaldo, Tyler Cannon and Jared Cannon, all of Ironwood; two great-grandchildren, Victoria Dawn Larsen and Sophia Green; a brother, Paul (Phyllis) Kleimola, Ironwood Township; sister, Julia Zielinski, Wakefield; sister-in-law, Della Kleimola, Bessemer; brother-in-law, James Cannon, Saginaw, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Glenn Weber, Ironwood, and Steve Udd, Bessemer.      Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by brothers, Walter N. and Gordon Kleimola; and sisters, Nancy Leskoviansky and Mildred DuRay.      Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.      Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 12, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev.
