Obituary

Sharon D. Porter, 66, of Kimball, Wis., and formerly of Ironwood, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, in Kimball. The former Sharon Ramme was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Hancock) Ramme, Sr., attended the Southside School in Hurley, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1960. She worked in Milwaukee for a short time, and at Simpson Electric Co. in Mercer for many years, then was employed as an inspector at Manutronics in Kenosha, relocating to the Ironwood and Hurley area when blindness forced her retirement in 1979. Sharon was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hurley. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards, dancing and watching her game shows on television. She especially loved spending time with family and friends, her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. She was a big fan of the "King", Elvis Presley. She was married to Robert Grunert for 17 years, then married Robert Porter, who preceded her in death in 1988. Surviving are three sons, Kevin (Diane) Grunert, Madison, Michael (Heather) Grunert, Ironwood, and Neil (Tina) Grunert, Rhinelander; a daughter, Laurie Daugher, Ironwood; eight grandchildren, Devin and Jared Grunert, Madison, Austin, Larissa and Arionna Grunert, Ironwood, Jacob Monroe, Sandusky, Mich., Benjamin Monroe, U.S.A.F., England, and Amanda Monroe, Ironwood; a brother, Arthur (Ann) Ramme, Jr., Ironwood; two sisters, Kathleen (Gaylord) Claremboux, Mason, and Carolee Ilminen, Kimball; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Sharon was preceded in death by a brother, William D. Ramme, in 1988. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m., at the Engstrom Funeral Home in Hurley, with the Rev. Francis Strong officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Hurley Cemetery. Luncheon will be served at the Kimball Community Center immediately upon return from the cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday. Pallbearers will be Jesse and Brady Ilminen, Brian, David and Joe Osterman, Jr., and Ken Passinault.
