Rudy Morse Heffner, 78, of Ironwood, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, of congestive heart failure, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn., with his loving wife Deborah by his side. He was born March 27, 1929 in Cedar, Wis., son of the late Morse and Maude (Archambeau) Heffner, and attended schools in Saxon, Wis. Rudy joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 where he completed Cooks and Bakers school. He served on many ships and was serving on the USS Timmerman when he resigned in 1956. He worked at the Veterans Hospital in Dwight, Ill. for two years and bought his own restaurant in Milwaukee. Rudy was one of the original operators of George Webbs Hamburger Parlors. He moved to Fond du Lac in 1962 where he ran a George Webbs Restaurant until his retirement in November of 1994. In 1994 he moved to Kimball, Wis., and in 2000 to Ironwood. On Aug. 5, 2004, he married Deborah Goodman at the Iron County Courthouse in Hurley. She survives. Also surviving are three children, Patricia (Robert) Freund, Randy (Denise) Heffner, and Ann (Bruce) Bartelt, all of Fond du Lac; one granddaughter, Katie Freund, and three grandsons, Joseph (Andrea) Heffner, Phillip Heffner and David Freund, all of Fond du Lac; three great-grandchildren, Charly and Jackson Freund, and Aiden Heffner; two step-grandchildren, Megan and Josh Schneiter, both of Fond du Lac; a brother, Frank (Cathy) Heffner, Saxon; five sisters, Anna Smith, Berlin, Wis., Nellie Bielke, Superior, Wis., Arbutis Germain, Pallyup, Wash., Emma Wiercinski, DePere, Wis., and Lona Mead, Myrtle Creek, Ore.; brothers- and -sisters-in-law, Gerald Forncrook, of Saxon, who had helped alot in these past few years that Rudy was sick; Lew and Mary Merrill, Sun Center, Fla.; and Pat Heffner, Ashland, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Rudy was preceded in death by a son, Larry , in 1952; four brothers, Fred, Wilford, Walter and Donald; and eight sisters, Mae Heffner at birth, Alice Steinhaus, Emma Peterson, Gertrude Rodencal, Orpha Oliver, Lee Kersten, Mary Forncrook and Jane Merrill. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Christian Muellerleile officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Committal services and interment will be in the spring in Edgewood Cemetery, Gurney.
