Roy L. "Radar" Niemi, 52, of 13750 N. County Road D, Kimball,
Wis., died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in Ironwood.
He was born May 11, 1957, in Bessemer, son of Howard Niemi and the late Edna Peronto.
Radar
was a 1975 graduate of A. D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, and went
on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged
June 30, 1978.
As
a younger man, he loved to ski and won multiple competitions. All his
life he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as spending time with his
family. Radar will be greatly missed.
He was most recently employed by Snowbelt Hardwoods.
He
leaves behind his wife, JoAnn (Pelkola), of 17 years; sons, William and
Benjamin; and daughter, Ellie. Also surviving are his father, Howard,
Ironwood; sisters, Alice (Dave) Manki, Pine Lake, Nola (Scott)
Stenroos, Superior, Wis.; a brother, Rod (Terry) Niemi, Lake Gogebic;
and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Out of respect for Radar's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A
memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at
McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St. in Ironwood, with the
Rev. Jean Rencontre officiating.
Rite
of Committal and interment will follow in the Hurley Cemetery, where
full military rites will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion
Post 5 Honor Guard.
