Rose M. Piasecki, 91, of Ironwood, died peacefully Saturday evening, May 17, 2008, in Ironwood, with her family at her side. The former Rose Kostac was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Montreal, Wis., daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Kostac, and attended the Montreal School. She was employed by the Walter Meyers Sausage Company for a number of years. Rose was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she served in the Altar Society and choir. She was married to John B. Piasecki on Nov. 11, 1939, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal by Fr. Skikonski. John preceded her in death on May 1, 1985. Besides her parents, Rose was also preceded in death by a son Richard on Feb. 29, 1963; brothers Anton, Joseph and John Kostac; and sisters Mary Fiegen, Regina Maxinowski, and Josie Jingles. Surviving are a son, Donald (Altina), Golden, MO; daughter Carole (John) Brewer, Milwaukee; and twin daughters, Joan Levra, of Montreal, and Jean (Gerry) Nasi, of Hurley; grandchildren, Barbie Hamlin, Shelly Kivenas, Wesley and Robin Leinon, Casey and Ashley Levra, and Brian Brewer; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Gucinski, Superior, Wis.; and a very good friend and neighbor, Mary Revoy, of Ironwood. Rose was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was loved for her entertaining wit and youthful spirit. She also enjoyed baking, knitting, sewing and dancing the polka. A survivor of some tough times, she always said, "make the best of it." She will be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 21, at 3 p.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will be held in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
