Rose G. Johnson, 93, a former longtime Ironwood, Mich. resident, was Born to Eternal Life on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in Hurley. The former Rose Kuklenski was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Onufer and Alexandra (Godlewski) Kuklenski, attended school there, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1934. She married Arthur G. Johnson on Sept. 28, 1935, in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1978. Rose worked for her father at the Rainbow Gardens in downtown Ironwood, and at Sally's Shoe Shop for a short time. She retired after many years as a sales clerk at Albert's Clothing and Shoe in downtown Ironwood. She was a current member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She excelled at cooking and canning. She especially enjoyed cooking ethnic foods, having learned the recipes from relatives and friends. Surviving are a son, Herbert (Dorothy), Lexington, N.C., and daughter, Betsy (Allan) Cole, Rubicon, Wis.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Mary Kuklenski, Hatley, Wis., Margaret "Marge"Kuklenski, Margaret Kuklenski,.and JoAnn and Ramona Kuklinski, all of Ironwood, and Monica Kuklenski, Moorhead, Minn. Besides her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by brothers, Leo, Frank, Stanley, Michael, Lloyd, Herbert, Thomas "Tucker and Ray "Kirby"; and sisters, Helen in childhood, Stella Piazzi and Sophie Beverforden. She was also preceded in death by lifelong friends Martha Johnson and Violet Manninen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 28, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately upon return from the cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, where the parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Pallbearers will be Darryl, Keith and Brett Johnson, John Zegoski, Paul Sturgul and Joe Kuker.
