Roderick D. "Rod" Stockhaus,
75, of Ironwood, Mich., died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Ashland
Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ashland. He was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Bessemer
Township, Mich., son of the late Harold and Olga (Mattila) Stockhaus, attended
Central Grade School in Ironwood, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High
School in 1956. He was employed at the A&P Store in Ironwood, American
Motors in Kenosha, Foremost Foods in Appleton, and in sales at Roberts
Broadcasting in Ironwood for a short time, retiring as an outreach worker for
the Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency. He also assisted local funeral
directors and worked briefly for Coach Services. Rod was an avid runner, having participated in
12 marathons and numerous local races over the years. He was particularly proud
of his book "Marvin and Me". He enjoyed traveling and was an avid Green Bay
Packers fan and autograph collector. On May 8, 1965, he married Edith "Edie" Wainio
at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Terri Lynn
(Mark) Bluse, Hurley, and Karen Renee (Ted) Stevens, Ironwood; four
grandchildren, Matthew Stevens (Mirranda), Davenport, Iowa, Cole Stevens,
Ironwood and University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, and Kyle and Kristopher
Bluse, Hurley; a sister, Lois Olson, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; nieces and nephews,
Judy (Mike) Leviton, Eden Prairie, Minn., Kris (Ted) Hackenberg, Eagan, Minn.,
Jim Rooni, Bloomington, Minn., Deborah (Steve) Marvin, Malabar, Fla., and Craig
(Jodi) Olson, Miami, Fla.; many cousins; and good friends, Ron Trethewey and
Bill Johnson. Besides his parents, Rod was preceded in death
by a brother, Harold; sister, Lorraine Rooni; and brothers-in-law, Len Rooni and
Warren Olson. Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has
taken place. Private graveside committal services and
interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring. Arrangements are with McKevitt-Patrick Funeral
