Robert T. "Bob" Johnson, 77,
of Tamarack St., Ironwood, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, in his home,
with his loving family by his side, following a courageous, nine-month battle
with metastatic lung cancer. Bob was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Paulina, Iowa,
son of the late Theodore and Dorothy (Thorman) Johnson, and graduated from
Paulina High School in 1954. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent 22
years serving his country during the Korean and Vietnam War period, retiring as
a Master Sergeant in 1976. Following his career in the military, he earned
degrees in business and computer programming from Emporia State University,
Emporia, Kans. in 1984, and was employed as a computer programmer with the
Internal Revenue Service for 15 years, retiring in 1999 and moving to Ironwood
in 2000. Bob loved to golf, and was a member of the
Gogebic Country Club. He also was a talented woodworker and especially enjoyed
spending quality time with his grandchildren. On Oct. 18, 1958, he married the former Sydney
A. Morgan in Sioux City, Iowa. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Shane (Sheila),
Kansas City, Mo., and Robert, Ironwood; two daughters, Valerie (Johnnie) Day,
Denver, Colo., and Angela (Kelly) Ingles, Bessemer; many loved grandchildren;
two brothers, Donnell (Debbie), King George, Va., and Theodore (Louise), North
Augusta, S.C.; a sister, Darlyne (Glenn) Davis, Denver; and numerous
nieces, nephews and brothers-and-sisters-in-law. Per Bob's wishes, cremation has taken
place. A private family gathering will be held at a
later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the
JROTC Program at Luther L. Wright High School, 650 E. Ayer St., Ironwood, MI
