Robert L. Livingston, 77, of E-4992 Slade Rd., Ironwood Township, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Miller-Dwan Medical Center in Duluth, Minn. He was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Ironwood, son of the late Clyde and Hazel (Jacquart) Livingston, and attended Ironwood public schools and L.L. Wright High School. He then worked in the Newport Mine for a short time. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as a machinist mate on the USS Moale from 1951 to 1955. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Waukegan, Ill. where he was employed at Abbott Laboratories of Waukegan and American Motors Corp. of Kenosha, Wis. for ten years. Returning to Ironwood in 1970, he was employed as a millwright at Ahonen Lumber Co., and retired as superintendent of buildings and grounds at Gogebic Community College in 1992. Bob enjoyed hunting season at his camp with his friends Butch and Ike from Illinois, and his coffee time at the Uptown Cafe. On June 30, 1951, he was married to the former Cloe Dean Mortensen at the First Presbyterian Church in Hurley by the late Rev. C.L. Harries. Cloe Dean survives. Also surviving are a son, Michael, White Bear Lake, Minn.; a brother, Richard (Margaret), Hurley; four sisters, Betty Rondeau, Ironwood, Sharon Charles (Dave Bouillion), Hurley, Linda Rahko, Erwin Township, and Tina Kummer (Mike Junge), Ironwood; a brother-in-law, Charles Elsila, Kenosha; a sister-in-law, Pat Livingston, Hurley; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Gerald "Jerry"; and a sister, Gladys Elsila. In accordance with Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Jean B. Rencontre officiating. A flag presentation ceremony will follow, accorded by representatives of the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard.
