Raymond Edward Begalle, 97, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 29, 2025, at the Villa Maria Rest Home in Hurley, WI.

Born on November 27, 1927, in Ironwood, MI, Ray was the son of John and Mathilda (Shiffra) Begalle. He was a lifelong resident of Ironwood and a proud graduate of Ironwood High School, Class of 1945. A talented athlete, he lettered in football, basketball, and track and served as president of his senior class.

On July 1, 1947, Ray married the love of his life, Patricia Schutte, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They recently celebrated 78 years of marriage — a true testament to their devotion. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four children in Ironwood Township.

After graduation, Ray began his career with Acme Outdoor Display Company, where he worked until his retirement at age 82. A gifted sign designer and painter, he created many beloved landmarks throughout the Gogebic Iron Range and beyond — including the iconic Paul Bunyan in Minocqua, WI. His artistic touch and craftsmanship can still be felt across the region.

Ray was happiest outdoors and was an avid fisherman, gardener, trapper, and sports fan. He was also deeply committed to helping others. He donated blood regularly, quietly supported countless community needs, and often provided signs at no cost for class reunions and local events. His generosity was never for recognition — it was simply who he was.

Above all, Ray was dedicated to his family. His children — Dennis, Dianne, Denise, and Michael — were his pride and joy, as were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He celebrated their accomplishments, encouraged their dreams, and stood as a steady, loving presence in their lives. Ray's gentle spirit, strength, humor, and loyalty made him the heart of his family and a treasured friend to many.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his children Dennis (Mary) Begalle of Long Grove, IL, Dianne (Steve) Rozich of Gladstone, MI, Denise (Bob) Jacquart of Mercer, WI, and Michael Begalle of Ironwood; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his brother Donald Begalle of Longmont, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and his grandson.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, MI.
