Priscilla J. Gass, 89, of
Ironwood, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in her home. The former Priscilla J. Bedore was born June
1, 1923, in Bessemer, daughter of the late Clifford and Evelyn (Heidemann)
Bedore, attended Ironwood schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High
School in 1940. She enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Feb. 3, 1944, proudly
serving her country stateside during World War II, and was honorably discharged
as a corporal on Feb. 20, 1946. Following her discharge, she returned to
Ironwood and was united in marriage to George F. Gass on April 10, 1946, at the
Church of the Transfiguration-Episcopal, by Bishop Herman Page. George preceded
her in death on June 28, 1991. Priscilla attended Penn State University in
College Park, Penn. for four years, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in
liberal arts. Moving to Milwaukee, she was employed in inventory control at
Blackhawk Manufacturing and the Milwaukee Gas Co. She resided in Ohio, Arizona
and California before returning permanently to Ironwood. She then worked briefly
at Big Powderhorn Lodging Association, and was employed as society editor in the
newsroom at the Ironwood Daily Globe for 15 years, retiring in
1988. Priscilla was a member of the Church of the
Transfiguration-Episcopal in Ironwood, where she served as financial secretary,
and was an active member of the Altar Guild. She was a life long supporter of
Bay Cliff Health Camp in Marquette, the Historic Ironwood Theatre, and Ogalala Lakota
College in Kyle, S.D, and was a big Detroit Pistons, Chicago Cubs and Green Bay
Packers fan. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Ruth Bedore,
Greenville; brother-in-law, Ernest Decur, Sullivan, Mo.; and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, she was
predeceased by a brother, Clifford Bedore Jr.; and sister, Donagene
Decur. Out of respect for Priscilla's wishes,
cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb.
16, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the Church of the
Transfiguration-Episcopal, in Ironwood, with the Rev. Manuel Padilla
officiating. Committal will take place at the church, where
a flag presentation ceremony will be accorded by representatives of the Ironwood
American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Luncheon will follow in the church
annex. Spring burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery,
Highbridge, Wis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may
