Patricia J. "Pat"
Wood, 66, of 404 Maple St., Hurley, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Mellen
Manor Nursing Home in Mellen. She was born July 18, 1943, in
San Jose, Calif., daughter of the late Russell and Myrtle (Washburn) Berger. She
moved to Hurley in 1980, where she owned and operated the El Cantina Bar on
Silver St. for 11 years, and also worked at the Silver St. Motel and Video for
many years. Pat enjoyed shooting pool, video
games, darts, fishing and camping. She was married to Donald E.
Wood Sr. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1992. Surviving are a daughter, Sharyl
Macarty, of Hurley; three sons, Donald E. Jr. (Donna), Manitowish Waters, Jason
(Silvana Mendoza), Raleigh, N.C., and Leroy (Andrea), Medford, Ore.; eight
grandchildren, Rachel Rigoni, Amber and Ben Macarty, Courtney and Desiree Moran,
and Samantha, Megan and Dylan Wood; and five great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and
husband, Pat was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy Mehler, on Aug. 2,
2003; a grandson, Billy Chevez, in infancy; and a brother, Robert
Berger. Out of respect for her wishes,
cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering in
celebration of Pat's life will be held Monday, Jan. 11, at 5 p.m., at The Munch
in downtown Hurley. A private family gathering will
