Patricia Lynn "Patty" Hannu,
48, of Ironwood, died peacefully Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at home, surrounded by
her loving family, following a courageous, 19-year battle with
cancer. The former Patty Moren was born Oct. 9, 1964,
in Ironwood, the daughter of Gerald and Joyce (Carli) Moren. She attended
Newport Grade School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1982.
She was employed as activity director at Josephson Nursing Home in Ironwood for
several years. Patty was a member of Our Lady of Peace
Catholic Church in Ironwood and an active volunteer at All Saints Catholic
Academy. She was an avid deer hunter, and enjoyed camping, fishing, going to
beagle trials with her husband, and crocheting. She also was an excellent pasty
maker and loved family cook outs. She especially enjoyed following her nieces
and nephews in all of their sporting activities. Patty's strength and courage throughout her
19-year struggle with cancer has been an inspiration to all. She will be deeply
missed but never forgotten. She was married to Terry Hannu on Oct. 11,
1997, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the Rev. Darryl
Pepin. Terry survives. Also surviving are a son, Zachary, at home;
daughter, Crystal (Brad) Buccanero, Ironwood; stepdaughters, Kari (Steven)
Deadman and Kelly (Adam) Casperson, both of Green Bay; two grandchildren, Archer
Deadman and Whitney; her mother and father, Joyce and Jerry Moren, and paternal
grandmother, Martha Moren, all of Ironwood; brother, Ricky (Toni) Moren, Land O'
Lakes, Wis.; sisters, Brenda (Marty) Fanning-Rose, Hermantown, Minn., and Paula
(John) Windt, Pence, Wis.; mother-in-law, Lorraine Brown, Ironwood;
father-in-law, Eugene (Judy) Hannu, Cool City, Ill.;
sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Sandy and Alan Baron, Janet and Don Streigle,
Shelley and Ron Phaff, Jayne and Don Snyder, and Tim and C.J. Hannu; numerous
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and a host of friends; and
her dogs, Remi and Bella. Patty was preceded in death by a
brother-in-law, Fred Fanning. Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has
taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Tuesday, May 28, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family
Room at 9:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the
Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will be in
