Novella Jean Bartol, age 94, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Novella was born in Van Buren, Maine, to Louis and Alma (Sirois) Dubay on February 23, 1931.
Novella attended school in Van Buren until moving to Portland, Maine, where she graduated from Cathedral High School.
Novella joined the Women's Army Corp (WACs) during the Korean War, completing her basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. She was transferred to Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana, where she met her future husband, Sgt. Arthur P. Bartol. They were married on January 15, 1954, at Fort Benjamin Harrison. After Arthur's retirement from the Army, they made their home in Gile, Wisconsin.
She worked for Louisiana-Pacific Corporation in Mellen, and retired in 1993 after twenty-five years. In 1994, Novella and Arthur began volunteering at the Saxon Community Center by helping in the kitchen for many years. After Arthur's passing, Novella volunteered at the Treasure Room in Montreal until 2023. She always enjoyed helping people and making new friends. She loved to travel and went on many trips after her retirement.
Novella is survived by her two daughters, Corrine (Michael) McEnery of Zion, Illinois, and Leola (Dennis Scholl) Maslanka of Eagle River, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Ginny McEnery of Mesa, Arizona, Christopher McEnery of Zion, Illinois, and Laura (Joel) Sinclair of De Pere, Wisconsin; four great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; brother, Leo Paul Dubay of New Sharon, Maine; sisters-in-law, Berniece Tomczyk of Kimball, Wisconsin, and Mary Bartol of West Bend, Wisconsin; and many nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur in 1997; sisters, Rolande Cyr, and Lillian Stellar; three brothers, Ivan, Jerry, and Walter; and sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette Bartol and John Bartol.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service. Inurnment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurley.
The family would like to thank Court Manor Health Service and Skyview Nursing Home for the great care and wonderful kindness given to Mom.
