Norma J. Trolla, 76, of 605 2nd Ave. No., Hurley, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a lifelong struggle with various illnesses. The former Norma Johnson was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of the late John and Mabel (Carlson) Johnson, attended Ironwood schools, and graduated form Luther L. Wright High School in 1949. She was employed as head bookkeeper at the Holiday Inn in Hurley from 1982 to her retirement in April, 1994. Norma was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and its' Council of Catholic Women, and the Grand View Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed travelling and reading. Norma was a devoted wife and mother, and her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were her whole life. She was married to Anthony J. Trolla on Oct. 11, 1952, at the St. Mary's rectory, by the late Msgr. Michael Prock. They celebrated 55 years of marriage on Oct. 11, 2007. Anthony survives. Also surviving are a son, John F. (Terry), Hurley; a daughter, Therese (Jim) Pawlak, Ironwood; four grandchildren, Tracey (Andrew) Leiphart, Ironwood, Tony Trolla (Tracy Thurow), Hurley, Gillian Pawlak, Ann Arbor, and Michael Pawlak (Caitlin Mackey), Ironwood; a great-granddaughter, Emily Leiphart, Ironwood; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Anita and Jim Zak, Ironwood, and Delores Trolla and Tom Pallin, both of Hurley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and several godchildren. Besides her parents, Norma was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Marie Trolla, in infancy in 1958; two brothers, Fredrick and Gerald Johnson; and two sisters, Margie Johnson in infancy and Virginia DeMario. Out of respect for Norma's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.
