Norene E. Johnson, 72, of 612 E. McLeod Ave., Ironwood, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 2008, in Ironwood. The former Norene Santti was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Watton, daughter of the late Arthur and Hilma (Rajala) Santti, attended grade school there, and graduated from high school in L'Anse. She was employed as a nurse's aid at Josephson Nursing Home in Ironwood and Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley for a short time. She enjoyed being at home. On May 18, 1957, she married Verner A. Johnson in Covington. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1974. Survivors include three sons, Wesley and Jerry Johnson, both of Hurley, Wis., and Clayton (Sue) Johnson, Ironwood Township; a daughter, Carol (Forrest) Brady, Ironwood; three grandchildren, Beth (Brian) Ofstad, Gurney, Wis., and Scott (Lauchette) Brady and Megan Johnson, both of Ironwood; five great-grandchildren, Madison and Kazden Ofstad and Tory, Ian and Harley Brady; two brothers, Robert (Jannet) and Russell Jacobson, both of Watton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Norene was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Johnson in 1982 and Richard Johnson in 1986; a daughter, Mary Johnson, in infancy; a grandson, Jacob Johnson, in 2006; her step-father, Hjalmer Jacobson; and two brothers, Raymond and Roy Santti. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. CDT, at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Jean B. Rencontre officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at 2:30 P.M EDT in the Covington Cemetery in Covington. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. CDT on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Wesley, Jerry, Clayton and Megan Johnson, and Forrest and Scott Brady.
