Mildred F. "Millie"
Nelson, 75, of N12445 Lake Rd., Ironwood Township, died unexpectedly Saturday,
Aug. 28, 2010, in her home. The former Mildred Chronister was born June 1,
1935, in Winona, Missouri, daughter of the late Manuel and Leona (Koogler)
Chronister. She was married to John E. Nelson on April 4,
1970, at the St. Paul Lutheran parsonage in Ironwood, by the late Rev. Oliver
Hallberg. Millie worked as a cook at Joy C's Cafe in
downtown Ironwood and as an aide at Josephson Nursing Home for many years. She
enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent cook and baker. Surviving are her husband, John, of 40 years;
a great-granddaughter, Rayna Faye Walker; three sisters, Ann, Sharon and Wanda,
all of Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Millie was preceded in
death by her son, Jimmie D. Walker, on Oct. 8, 2000; grandson, Ian Walker, in
2006; and two brothers, Dale and Gene Chronister. Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has
taken place and no services will be held. Online condolences may be given to Millie's
