Mildred M. "Millie" Jacobson, 98, of 201 W.
Francis St., Ironwood, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, in Ironwood. She was born July 2, 1911, in Ironwood,
daughter of the late Oscar and Maria (Maki) Jacobson, and graduated from Luther
L. Wright High School in 1929. She was employed as a sales clerk at the J.C.
Penney Co. in downtown Ironwood, and as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell
Telephone Co. in Ironwood for 44 years, retiring as a supervisor for Michigan
Bell in Iron Mountain in 1973. Millie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in
Ironwood and its' Zion Lutheran Women, and the Michigan Bell Pioneers. She loved
her flower garden, and was dedicated to her father. Surviving are four cousins, Lloyd (Nancy)
Jacobson of Ironwood, who were her special caregivers, Betty Reijo, Iron River,
Wis., Janet (William) Follis, Brule, Wis., and Barbara (Robert) Anderson, Lake
Nebagamon, Wis.; a step-nephew, Ron McKee, Rockville, Md.; and three
step-nieces, Nancy (Harry) Warner and Bette (Homer) Willerick, both of Marshall,
Mich., and Marilyn Green, Bainbridge, Ind. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by a brother, Walfred Jacobson; a sister, Agnes Turovaara; and a cousin,
Clifford Jacobson. At Millie's request, cremation has taken
place. A memorial service will be held Saturday,
Sept. 5, at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 W. Midland Ave., in Ironwood,
with the Rev. Francis Strong, officiating. Committal services will take place at the
church, with luncheon to immediately follow in the church fellowship
hall. Private inurnment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11
a.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Millie's
memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 705,
