Obituary

Mildred E. Hopkins, 95, of 160 E. Michigan Ave., Ironwood, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, in Ironwood. The former Mildred Nyman was born July 3, 1912, in Lac du Flambeau, Wis., daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Kvist) Nyman, attended Irma and Ashland, Wis. schools, and graduated from Ashland High School in 1930. She was employed as a stenographer for the Lake Superior District Power Co. in Ashland for ten years, and as a legal secretary for the Clifford Trethewey Law Office in downtown Ironwood from 1953 until her retirement. Mildred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood, and served as current treasurer of its' Women's Association. She played bridge twice a week, and enjoyed golfing in her younger years. She especially enjoyed her late poodle, " Rags". On Aug. 24, 1940, she was married to Roy H. Hopkins in Bayfield County, Wis. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1987. Surviving are her son, Larry, Kimball, Wis.; a sister, Thelma Rohlf, Kansas City, Mo; four nephews, William and Robert Rohlf, both of Missouri, Ted Hopkins, California, and Eric Nyman, Pennsylvania; two nieces, Judy Hopkins, California, and Judy Sayland, Pennsylvania; and several grand nephews and nieces. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Kristin Kay Hopkins, Nov. 3, 2007; and brother, Elmer Nyman. In accordance with Mildred's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood, with Dr. Jack Fashbaugh officiating. Committal services will be held at the church, with luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. Spring inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 301 E.
