Melvin Andrew Wakkinen, Jr., 70, of Marinesco, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his home.

Melvin was born to Melvin Sr. and Lucille (Lipske) Wakkinen on February 4, 1956, in Ironwood, Michigan. Melvin was a jack of all trades, master of none. He was a busybody who loved tinkering on anything from small engines to woodworking, and everything in between.

He is survived by his children: Christy Wakkinen, Gina Wakkinen, and Kevin Wakkinen; his grandchildren: Tristan Wakkinen, Hunter Richter, Justin Greenburg, Mariah Greenburg, Treyvan Greenburg, Isaiah Wakkinen, Reece Wakkinen, and Farrah Wakkinen; and his great-granddaughter, Serenity; friend, Michelle Shanin, and her daughter, Raechel, and her children, James and Sophia Bigelow; and son, Jacob, and grandson Ryan Bigelow. He is further survived by his siblings: George (Judy) Wakkinen, Marylee Alexander, and Helen Smallwood, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his mother, Lucille; father, Melvin Sr.; brother, James Wakkinen; and his sister, Sandra Niemi.

Following Melvin’s wishes, no formal services are taking place.
