Obituary

Matthew John Keski, 32, of Ironwood, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 11, 2025. He was born in Ashland, WI, on April 9th, 1993, to John and Debbie Keski. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend.

Matthew attended Ironwood Area Schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright in 2012. Following high school, he attended Gogebic Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice in 2014, and continued his education in the field of Forestry. He worked for a variety of local businesses throughout this time.

From a young age, Matthew was very passionate about sports. As a 10-year-old, his Little League all-star team won the district championship and advanced to play in the state tournament held in Jackson, MI. Throughout his youth, he participated in a variety of other sports, including ski racing, hockey, soccer, football, and basketball.

Growing up, Matthew enjoyed many summers camping at Crystal Lake in Sayner, WI, with his family and special family friends, the Schoenhard's. His passion for the outdoors also included hunting and fishing. Matthew and his father enjoyed multiple fishing trips to Canada, one to Lake of the Woods on a houseboat to catch walleye. They also took pleasure in hunting out at the family's hunting camp.

In his high school years, Matthew's favorite time was spent on the court representing the Ironwood Red Devil's basketball team. He also excelled in track and field. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, bowling, listening to his favorite music, and cheering for his favorite sports teams: the Green Bay Packers, Michigan State Basketball, Michigan Football, and the Detroit Tigers.

Matthew is survived by his parents, John Keski of Wakefield and Debbie Keski of Ironwood; his sister Erin Keski, and special niece Kallie Linn, Ironwood/Wakefield, and sister Cassandra (Jim) Rickon, Hudson, OH; Aunts Diane Hill, Helena, MT, Marilyn Lock, Wentzville, MO, Judy (Bob) Salmela, Savannah, MO, Lori Lanctoe, Ironwood, MI, and Nancy Lanctoe, Hurley, WI; an Uncle, Robert (Mary) Lanctoe, Hurley, WI; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Irene Keski; maternal grandparents, Francis and Kathleen Lanctoe; uncles Rick Lanctoe, John Lanctoe, Ray Lock, and Ron Hill; and cousin Ray Lock Jr.
