Obituary

Maryann B. Novak, 85, of E5013 Jackson Rd., Ironwood Township, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in Ironwood.      The former Maryann Baima was born May 30, 1924, in Pence, Wis., daughter of the late Stephen and Jennie (Baima) Baima, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Hurley, Wis. in 1942. She then attended St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Chicago where she received her degree as a registered nurse.      Maryann began her nursing career in Chicago, then returned to the area, where she was employed at Divine Infant Hospital and Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, and the Newport Clinic and Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. She was  the founding director of Allied Health Programs at Gogebic Community College, teaching and directing the various nursing programs there from 1970 until her retirement in 1988.      Maryann was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, where she belonged to the Resurrection Choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector, and was an active volunteer in New Beginnings-Pregnancy Support Services. Together with her husband, she enjoyed traveling abroad and spending winters in Florida. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.      On Nov. 23, 1950, she was married to John M. Novak at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley by the late Msgr. Michael Prock.       Surviving are her husband, John, of 59 years; three sons, Michael, Ironwood Township, John (Demi), Colorado Springs, Colo., and Paul (Carol), Pompano Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy (James) Dunn, Mattawan; three grandchildren, Matthew and Dana Novak, Colorado Springs, and Natalie Novak, Pompano Beach; a sister, Delores Fresacher, Ashland, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Baima, Hurley; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Madden; and a brother, Lloyd Baima, on June 14, 2008.      In accordance with Maryann's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 20, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl P epin, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall.      Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Beginnings-Pregnancy Support Services, 130 W.
