Obituary

Mary Andrea "Andy" Otte,   69, of 11163 N. Kuusisto Road, Hurley, Wis., went home with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.      She was born Aug. 30, 1940, in Kenosha Wis., to Ken and Adeline (VanLanduyt) White. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School, where she proudly played the trombone in the marching band, the Johnson Wax band and the Kenosha Symphony.      On Nov. 23, 1963, she was united in holy matrimony to Kenneth Otte at St. Mary's Church in Kenosha. He survives.      Andy was employed as a bookkeeper at the Kenosha National Bank. In 1970 the couple moved to the town of Carey, Wis., where they owned and operated Island Lake Inn.      Andy was an avid outdoors enthusiast. She was instrumental in the development of the snowmobile industry throughout the region. She served as president and secretary for the GNW Tavern League, and helped organize the Island Lake Property Owners Association.      Although she suffered a debilitating stroke in 1991, Andy remained active in both church and community with her strong spirit and razor-sharp wit. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hurley, the Stroke Support Group, and The Ladies of the Lake.      Andy is further survived by a brother, Jim (Chris) White, Kenosha; a sister, Susan (John) Bouwens, Racine, Wis.; Ken's sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Anderson, Miss., Nancy (Jim) Zuidema, Washington state; a brother-in-law, Dewayne Larson; numerous nieces and nephews; many special care givers; and her beloved chihuahua, Dolly.      She was preceded in death by her father, Ken's parents, and Ken's sister, Sharlet. Her mother, Adeline, passed in September of this year.      At Andy's request, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley Thursday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall.      Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.      To view Andy's obituary online, sign the guestbook, and express condolences, visit www.mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com .       Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
