Mary Andrea "Andy" Otte, 69,
of 11163 N. Kuusisto Road, Hurley, Wis., went home with her Lord and
Savior on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center in
Duluth.
She
was born Aug. 30, 1940, in Kenosha Wis., to Ken and Adeline
(VanLanduyt) White. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School,
where she proudly played the trombone in the marching band, the Johnson
Wax band and the Kenosha Symphony.
On Nov. 23, 1963, she was united in holy matrimony to Kenneth Otte at St. Mary's Church in Kenosha. He survives.
Andy
was employed as a bookkeeper at the Kenosha National Bank. In 1970 the
couple moved to the town of Carey, Wis., where they owned and operated
Island Lake Inn.
Andy
was an avid outdoors enthusiast. She was instrumental in the
development of the snowmobile industry throughout the region. She
served as president and secretary for the GNW Tavern League, and helped
organize the Island Lake Property Owners Association.
Although
she suffered a debilitating stroke in 1991, Andy remained active in
both church and community with her strong spirit and razor-sharp wit.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hurley, the Stroke
Support Group, and The Ladies of the Lake.
Andy
is further survived by a brother, Jim (Chris) White, Kenosha; a sister,
Susan (John) Bouwens, Racine, Wis.; Ken's sisters, Kathy (Jerry)
Anderson, Miss., Nancy (Jim) Zuidema, Washington state; a
brother-in-law, Dewayne Larson; numerous nieces and nephews; many
special care givers; and her beloved chihuahua, Dolly.
She
was preceded in death by her father, Ken's parents, and Ken's sister,
Sharlet. Her mother, Adeline, passed in September of this year.
At Andy's request, cremation has taken place.
A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Hurley Thursday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Michael
Hayden, celebrant.
Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
