Mary Kay
Osterholm
November 12, 1948 – January 6, 2025
Mary K. Osterholm, 76, of Ironwood, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, January 6, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Mary was born on November 12, 1948, to John and Dora (Mattrella) Kavinsky in Ironwood. She graduated from St. Ambrose Catholic School in 1959 with honors, then went to UW Superior and later in her life Gogebic Community College. Mary worked for many years as a proofreader for BlackDot in Freeport, Illinois, and then taught preschool at Our Lady of Peace.
Mary was a devout member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She enjoyed doing many and all kinds of crafting. Mary was an avid reader and loved to watch the Packers.
Mary will be missed by her son, Ryan Osterholm; daughter, Maia (Chuckles) Gotta; brother, Tom Kavinsky; six grandchildren, Tessa (Kory) Delich, Taylor (Cody) Mukavitz, Alexis Osterholm, Charlie Gotta, Laney Osterholm, and Nadia Osterholm; great-grandchildren, Katiya and Sutton Ofstad, Croix, Griffen and Grier Mukavitz; and her nephew, TJ Padjen
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Jimmy Kavinsky; sister, Dorothy Padjen, and family member Denise Osterholm.
Mary or Mammy, as her family knew her, was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was always there for all of us. It never mattered what she was going through herself. She was always willing to lend a hand or an ear. She taught us the importance of family and putting others first, what it meant to be patient and kind, to persevere during tough times, to follow your heart, and to be humble and grateful for the little and simple things in life. She was a beautiful soul and will be missed deeply.
Visitation for Mary will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Fr. Brian Gerber officiating.
Memorials may be directed to Our Lady of Peace in Mary's name.
