Mary A. Oie, 88, of Ironwood, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012,
at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. The former Mary A. Novak was born Dec. 5,
1923, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Schuler) Novak,
and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1942. She was married to Clyde A. Oie on Sept. 18,
1947, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Rev. C.J.
Petranek. Clyde preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1982. Mary was employed as a meter reader by the
Lake Superior District Power Co., as a cook at Joe's Drive-In, and as a cook and
waitress at the Blue Goose in Ironwood. She enjoyed sewing, homemaking, cooking
and taking care of her family, and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Ironwood and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Surviving are two sons, Robert (Barbara),
Bessemer, and Jim (Patrice), Ironwood; a daughter, Mary Beth Oie, Ironwood; four
grandchildren, Nicole Oie, Rachel Niemi, and Melissa (Corey) Magdziak, all of
Ironwood, and Kim (Luke) Peterson, Bessemer; six great-grandchildren, Ivan and
Alex Niemi, Landon and Olivia Peterson, and Lily and Jacob Magdziak; one
great-great-grandson, Yuri Niemi; a sister, Anne Forslund, Hurley, Wis.; half
sister, Barb Novak, Presque Isle, Wis.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Trombley,
Ironwood; and nephews and nieces, Doug Forslund, Manitowish Waters, Wis., Patty
Maki, Woodruff, Wis., Julie (Jim) Krznarich, Ironwood, Roland (Angela) Paulsen,
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Marcia (Gene) Jacobsen, Wausau, Wis., Rita (Dennis)
Kananen, Brighton, Bonnie Trombley and Debbie (Ray) Bastman, both of Ironwood,
David (Joy) Trombley, Rothschild, Wis., Mark (Arlene) Babicky, Ocean Beach,
Calif., and Mary Ann Bouton, Kathleen (William) Blodgett, and David
(Patty) Secor, all of El Cajon, Calif. Besides her parents and husband, Mary was
preceded in death by a son, John, April 30, 2009; a granddaughter, Kirsten Myra
"Sissy" Oie, Jan. 14, 2008; brothers, Frank, Albert Jr., and John
Novak; sisters, Betty Larson, Julia Paulsen, and Marge Novak; half brothers,
Charles Knight and Jules Novak; sisters-in-law, Leone (Charles) Luoma and Mary
Louise (Jack) Babicky; and brother-in-law, Raymond Trombley. Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has
taken place and private family services will be held. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Ironwood, at a later date. Condolences may be given to Mary's family
