Mary B. Berno, 84, of Park Falls, and formerly of Montreal, died early Tuesday morning, April 29, 2008, in Park Falls. The former Mary Cretti was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Gwinn, Mich., daughter of the late Battista and Erma (Catto) Cretti. The family then moved to Pence and Mary attended J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley. During World War II, she was employed in a defense plant in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was married to Edward W. Berno on July 25, 1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal, by the Rev. W. Kolman. They then made their home in Montreal. Edward preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1988. Mary was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crafts, playing bingo, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. She had been a resident of Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls for the past 26 years. Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Julie Totsch) Ruha, Racine, and Bonnie (Charles) Alexandroni, Ironwood; three grandchildren, Stacey (Steve) Johnson, Chino, AZ, Kimberly (Dustin) DeBroux, Green Bay, and Brian (Heather) Ruha, Kenosha; two great-grandsons, Daniel and Alexander DeBroux; two sisters, Gina Townsend, Milton, Fla., and Jan (Jack) Nemmers, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Mary Lerza, Cudahy; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow at the Iron Nugget in downtown Hurley. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley, later this spring.
