Obituary

Mary E. "Mickey" Anderson, 86, of 715 Pabst St., Ironwood, died early Thursday morning, Jan. 1, 2009, in Ironwood. The former Mary Kerkove was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Edmund and Mary (Van Nieuwenhuyse) Kerkove, attended Ironwood and St. Ambrose schools, and graduated from L.L. Wright High School in 1941. She married Carl V. Anderson on May 8, 1943, in Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2003. Mickey worked at the Ironwood Daily Globe in her later years. She was a current member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and a former longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church. While a member of Salem, she sung in the church choir, something she thoroughly enjoyed. Her hobbies included reading, knitting and traveling with her family. Mickey's life revolved around her home and family. Surviving are her daughter, Christine Anderson, Ironwood, and her son Bob (Judy), St. Cloud, Minn. and Ocala, Fla.; two grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Anderson, Hibbing, Minn., and Karen (Jason) Grahek, East Bethel, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Richard and Mae; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Fisher, Rockford, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Marcel and Cyril Kerkove; and sisters, Martha Bernardin, Laura Vandenberge, Clara Keranen and Pauline Swanson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with cremation to follow. Spring inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately following the service. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
