Martha B. Kein, 90, of
Mercer, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Our Home K Care in Lac du
Flambeau. The former Martha Grubbs was born Feb. 22,
1921, in Tyler, Texas, daughter of the late Thomas and Myrtle (Martin) Grubbs,
attended Texas grade schools, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in
Roosevelt, Wash.in 1939. She married Harold Kein on Feb. 4, 1943, in
Olympia, Wash. The couple moved to Mt. Prospect, Ill., where Martha worked in
Quality Control for the Zenith Corp. in Chicago for 18 years., then moved to
Mercer in 1969, where they owned and operated Norway Point Resort for 10 years.
Harold preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1997. Martha was a member of Faith Lutheran Church
in Mercer. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and gardening. Surviving are four nieces, Joyce Benjamin,
Bristow, Okla., Barbara (Benny) Whitfield, Porterville, Calif., Juanita
Underwood, Cottage Grove, Ore., and Sharon (Arthur) Clexton, Niles, Ill.; a
nephew, George (JoAnn) Voss, Palatine, Ill.; Harold's cousin, Andrew
(Shirley) Boening, Salem, Wis.; and good friend, Shirley Garza, Mercer. Besides her parents and husband, Martha was
preceded in death by four sisters, Olivia Crocker, Elizabeth Miller, Bertha
Wilson, and Lenora Miller. Funeral
services will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10
a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Mercer, with Pastor Gary Uttech
officiating. Committal and interment will follow in the
Mercer Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church
immediately upon return from the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to
