Obituary

Martha L. Hendrickson, 92, formerly of Ironwood and Hurley, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in Wakefield, surrounded by her loving family.      The former Martha Lampi was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Ironwood, daughter of the late John and Vienna (Ruha) Lampi, and attended grade school in South Carey and Lincoln High School in Hurley.      She married Matt Hendrickson on July 25, 1936, in Bessemer. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1985.      Martha did housekeeping work in private homes and area resorts for many years, retiring in 1974.      She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood, Golden Age of Iron County and the Iron County Seniors Association, and the former Auxiliary to Ironwood V.F.W. Post 1823. She enjoyed visiting elderly people in area nursing homes.      Martha was a very caring and loving person who always put others above herself. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother great and great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all, and will be dearly missed.      Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Thiesen, Racine, Wis., Shirley (Curt) Udd, Ramsay, and Janice (Tony) Tomczak, Kingsford; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Earl Pelto, and one great-niece and two great-nephews, all of Wiggins, Miss.; and a host of friends      Besides her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Lavern, at birth; grandson, Scott Christopher Udd, July 3, 2010; son-in-law, Glenn Thiesen, in 2004; brother, John Lampi, in 1988; and sister, Viola Pelto, in 1986.      Out of respect for Martha's wishes, cremation has taken place.      Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5104 E. Margaret St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Wes "Bo" Baumeister officiating.      A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.      Private committal and inurnment will take place in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church.      Martha's obituary can be viewed online and condolences given to her family at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
