Mark L. Vukovich, 79, of Ironwood, died Friday morning, July 13, 2007, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Bessemer, Mich., son of the late Marko and Mary (Schutte) Vukovich, and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1945. He married the former Gert Jaszczak of Ironwood on Aug. 12, 1950, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironwood. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1990. Mark was manager of Gogebic Auto and Northwestern Motor Bus Co. of Ironwood and Bessemer for many years until his retirement in Oct. of 1992. An active member of the Ironwood-Hurley Rotary Club for years, he served as club president in 1967-1968, and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. He also served on the Ironwood City Commission and the Ironwood Housing Commission, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are three children, Christine (Larry) Passint, Rice Lake; Susan (George) Oberlander, Weston; and Mark Vukovich, Spring Lake, Mich.; grandchildren, Nicholas Passint, Milwaukee; Kimberly and Whitney Passint, both of Rice Lake; Jillian (Joe) Cessna, San Diego, Calif.; Adam Oberlander, Weston; and Janna Alyse, Melanie, and Johnathon Vukovich, all of Spring Lake. Besides his parents and wife, Mark was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and George; and two sisters, Marie Vukovich Huff and Kay Vukovich Michalek. In accordance with Mark's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 21, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin,celebrant. Visitation will be in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
