Obituary

Marjorie E. "Marge" Schmalz, 82, of N10561 Lake Rd., Ironwood Township, left her family and friends to enter the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, in Ironwood. Marge was born on May 4, 1926 in Caro, Mich. to Sherman and Evelyn Dibble. She grew up in Ypsilanti and attended college at the University of Michigan. In 1948, while working at Kaiser Frazer, she met the love of her life, Raymond Schmalz. They got married on Oct. 7, 1950. Marge and Raymond decided rather quickly to start a family and Marylou was born on Oct. 1, 1951. Marylou was followed by Michael in 1954 and Charles, who came along unexpectedly, although certainly welcome, in 1960. Marge was a very loving and giving person. She was a member of the Ironwood Township Firebelles for many years. She worked as a volunteer for Regional Hospice and entertained the residents of various nursing homes with her piano skills on a regular basis. She served as the treasurer for the Ironwood Historical Society and contributed her time working at the Depot in downtown Ironwood. She also worked at Indianhead Mt. Ski Lodge and was charged with keeping things running smoothly there, which at times was quite a task. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. Marge enjoyed reading, gardening, golfing, lunches with her many friends and was an avid bridge player. However, most of all, she enjoyed and cherished the time she spent with family and friends. Marge leaves behind a family who will miss her very much. Survivors include her husband, Raymond; a daughter, Marylou (Steve) Pavlovich, Ironwood Township; two sons, Michael (Sue), Ironwood Township and Charles (Barb), Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Barbara) Dibble, Lincoln, Calif., and Merton (Marie) Dibble, Morganton, Ga.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Dibble, and a sister, Maryan Didier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Michael Jacobus, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Seth and Kelly Pavlovich, Bill, John and Stacy Schmalz, and Kim Cole. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Regional Hospice, N10561 Grandview Lane, Ironwood, Mich. 49938.
